Social media invades every aspect of our lives. You cannot use some websites and applications without having a social media account, specifically a Facebook account. One website I recently started using is Edmodo, the Facebook for education.

I have been using this social media education site for several months now. I have used this site as part of a program I am leading with students from four different schools across Chicago. The students have not interacted much in person, and did not know each other before connecting on Edmodo, but now have had interactions over the web in preparation for an upcoming science immersion camping experience in Wyoming.
I have loved the interactions the students have had on this website and the connections they are able to make once they meet in person.
I look forward to truly seeing the power of this website once the students are together on their weeklong trip and then continuing the interaction after the trip is over.
I urge you to check out Edmodo, whether you choose to use it in just your classroom or beyond to connect with other students and/or educators.
