Teaching to the Test

Teaching the test is wrong.

However, I think it is important that school districts structure curriculum in such a way to insure students’ success on standardized tests. Just like we structure our lessons and activities in class to insure student success on end-of-chapter assessments, we need to set students up for success on standardized tests. We cannot expect students to do well on test items on which they have had no instruction. Is this practice teaching to the test? I’m not sure. But I do know that teaching the content that is covered on these tests is only fair for our students.

What do you think?
