I recently had the opportunity to be part of a focus group for a new teacher evaluation system being constructed in my school system and put in place for next school year. I was impressed that the powers in charge actually had the idea to allow teachers some feedback on the new evaluation forms BEFORE they are actually implemented. What foresight! It is too bad that teachers were not a part of the entire process of actually creating the evaluation documents, but at least bringing us in at this point is a step in the right direction.
The small group of teachers met with person who developed the new evaluation documents. We gave our honest feedback about the process and documents. There were certainly some good points about the new system, but also some good critiques. I found much to like about the new documents, such as the fact that the expectations for teachers were very clearly laid out and specific. Like I said before, there were some critiques of the documents as well, but I won’t get into those here. 🙂
Hopefully, all our viewpoints will be taken into account before these documents are put in place for the 2012-2013 school year.
