The new topic of discussion here on the blog for the month of October is charter schools.
I don’t have much experience with charter schools, but they are popping up on every corner here in Chicago and elsewhere around the country.
Charter schools see increased student achievement and I got to thinking about why they see such improvements in their students.
Here are some of the demands and expectations of many charter schools:
-longer school days
-highly qualified teachers
-after school tutoring
-Saturday school
-constant parental involvement
-strict behavior guidelines
-rigorous curriculum
-2-3 meals provided daily
When these items are put all together, it provides for a rigorous learning environment in which students are able to excel. Perhaps more schools should adopt some of these principles.
