I think the issue here is not that teaching to students’ learning styles is not more effective, but that they have not been able to prove unequivocally that it is more effective. If we were to take this to mean that we shouldn’t try to teach to our children’s stronger modality, that would be ludicrous. For example, I know I am a stronger visual learner. If your approach to teaching me something new is purely auditorially, you have lost me. I can’t keep up. In classrooms where concepts were taught orally, I had more difficulty than when I had a blend of oral and visual information. Whatever this article states, as teachers we know that to be effective, we need to meet our students where they are, and that includes their learning style.
